Sewing Group Resource List for Facebook

Like most of us, I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. Over the past few months, however, my frustrations have been replaced by a growing enthusiasm over sewing, pattern and fabric groups on Facebook. Facebook groups, in general, are pretty great. If you have a particular passion, joining a group full of people who share the same passion makes your FB scrolling sessions so much better!

These sewing groups are helpful, supportive, educational and inspirational. You are GAURANTEED to pick up the most amazing sewing tips and tricks along the way. You'll quickly be onto sewing your own clothes in no time. You screw up? Commiserate with the group over percieved failures. You made a pretty that you're proud of? Share with the group & recieve amazing feedback! Just last night I learned a trick for sewing gathers with a zig-zag stitch and dental floss. Who knew? When I shared my Pegs to Bells hack, the P4P group was so kind!

Unfortunately, Facebook doesn't provide any kind of organization for groups, so I'm finding myself scrolling and scrolling through a long list of icons. This morning I said, "enough!" and decided to make a resource list right here on the blog!

Etiquette

Mind your manners.
These group spaces are fun, but each group has it's own set of rules.
So here's a few tips for you if you have never joined a FB group before:

- Look for the pinned post at the top of each group page. This will give you group rules (that you are expected to follow), and will sometimes provide you with fun coupon codes and other links! Like the post to show the admins of the page you read them.

- If you are in a fabric company group, don't post another company's fabric. If you are in a PDF Pattern company group, don't post about other pattern companies. If you are in a pattern company group, don't ask for links to other pattern companies (use the PDF Pattern Sales Group instead).

- If you sell items from a company's patterns, many companies require that you link to their company in your item description. Some just suggest it. The same goes for "pattern hacks". Several bloggers & sewers spend a lot of time making hacks or modifications to PDF patterns, and would appreciate the love if you use their mod!

THE FACEBOOK GROUP LIST

I'm really making this to keep me organized, and it's going to keep growing overtime. If you would like me to add a group, leave a note in the comments & I will check them out! Please note, I wouldn't reccomend

Sewing Support Groups

Apparel Fabric Groups

These groups primarily sell apparel fabrics, including Cotton Lycra, Rayon Spandex, Swim Knit, Double Brushed Polyester, etc. Some of the groups sell woven Rayons, like Rayon Challis.

Paper Pattern Groups

PDF Pattern Groups

These groups are for support & to "show-off" your creations using PDF patterns. In these groups, you can show off your creations, ask for pattern advice, look for "hacks", and so on. Each company is different, and not all groups are as active as others. You may find a group you favor, or you may mix and match your wardrobe using patterns from different companies. It's all personal preference.

Compliance & Regulations

If you are considering sewing your creations, PLEASE join one of these groups.
There is no excuse to sell something that is not compliant.

Sewing Machine & Serger Help

This list obviously needs some additions. I use Janome machines, and only recently started joining Serger/Overlocker groups. If you use Brother, Bernina, Singer, Juki, or another machine, please feel free to suggest a group and I will add it here!
