Astrological Weather Report :: January 5, 2016

Many of the planets are squaring off today, after a period of relative inactivity. We have both a Fixed Square operating between Mars in Scorpio (water) and Mercury in Aquarius (air), along with a Mutable Square between Venus in Sagittarius (fire) and Neptune in Pisces (water). Known to create friction and frustration, squares should be understood as the kind of discomfort that often makes us want to act or create some form of change. Squares form when two bodies are 90° apart from each other on the zodiac wheel. Although they may appear difficult, if understood and dealt with, squares can be a source of great power. We often LEARN from our challenges & frustrations as opposed to those harmonious times of ease. Fixed squares, like the one between Mars & Mercury, are often harder to navigate. Fixed signs, by nature, tend to be set in their ways. Aquarius likes zany inspired detachment while Scorpio longs for depth & control. The Mutable Squares, like the one between Neptune & Venus, will be navigated with a bit more ease. Mutable signs are changeable & more adaptable by nature. Sagittarius loves higher perceptions and is sometimes irresponsibly optimistic, while Pisces pulls at our cosmic calling with a tendency to avoid reality & get wrapped up in fantasy.

Mercury also turns retrograde today and will remain retrograde for the next few weeks. He does so just a few hours after his square to Mars this morning, as if aggressive Mars in Scorpio is kicking him backwards to do a bit of clean-up in areas of communication, thinking processes, and the absorption of information from our environment. We have to re-adjust our antennae, so to speak – our input and output channels. Perceptions need a good cleansing and tune up. Please understand, the internet & media sensationalizes Retrograde periods to no end. Every planet moves retrograde (minus the Sun & Moon). It’s an ebb and flow, a back and forth between modes of operating. It is not always a negative scenario, this all depends on your own natal chart energies.

Dwarf Planet Pluto forms an exact conjunction to the Sun today as well. We rise to the Sun each day, therefore imagine we are rising to the invitation to experience depth, and may feel drawn to transform. The Sun is going to form aspects with both Pluto and Uranus this week, as he continues to travel through the sign of Capricorn. This is a lot of trans-personal planetary energy. So our sense of identity may experience some zing & pop.

It’s important to note, that no two people will experience any transit (planets movements across the Zodiac) the same way. This is why knowing the actual placements of these astrological activities is helpful, it allows one to make comparisons to their own natal birth chart to see how this is operating in their own sphere of life experience.
